PROJECT CHALLENGES: Garrett County, Maryland leaders supported the creation of a self-contained whitewater course, located at the Adventure Sports Center International along with the International Whitewater Hall of Fame. The course design needed to be:

Natural-looking, unlike other self-contained whitewater courses
Olympic in caliber, like that on the Upper Ocoee
Recreationally-friendly for the general public

ATTRIBUTES OF THE DESIGN: The recirculating course takes advantage of natural rock outcroppings and bedrock, offering:

Unprecedented adjustability for a single channel design
Utilization of natural boulders using river restoration techniques
Intimate access to the rapids via rock overlooks
A signature whitewater feature located near the Adventure Sport Center Intenational Amphitheater, for convenient viewing

As a result, whitewater newcomers and enthusiasts alike will have access to predicable, world-class whitewater features just hours from Washington, DC, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Philadelphia.
