DICKERSON WHITEWATER COURSE
Dickerson, Maryland
PROJECT CHALLENGES: The United States Whitewater Team and coach Bill Endicott needed an Olympic-caliber whitewater course to help them prepare for competition at the 1992 Olympic Games. They received support from the community and cooperation from a local utility company to utilize the outflow from their power plant.
ATTRIBUTES OF THE DESIGN: Today's course offers many appealing options for paddlers:
"This is a dream come true...it's awesome, simply awesome" — Jon Lugbill, five-time world champion, Men's C-1 (whitewater decked canoe)
"We were skeptical at first...but it is really a credit to John Anderson...it's just like he said it would be" — William Sim, VP, Potomac Electric Power Company
